Minter teaches a multi-genre “life stories” writing workshop at the Big Blue Marble bookstore in Philadelphia where she has been Writer-in-Residence. She has also taught creative nonfiction, flash fiction and nonfiction, and poetry workshops (which she co-leads with her husband, the poet Hal Sirowitz). In New York City, she worked for Teachers & Writers Collaborative as a writer-in-residence in the public schools and she taught memoir writing to adult ESL students at International House.

Reading Series and Literary Events

Minter has curated reading series both in New York City and Philadelphia. In New York, she founded the Barbès reading series in Park Slope which featured readings by Abigail Thomas, Thomas Beller, D. Nurkse, Lisa Shea, Harvey Shapiro, Nelly Reifler, Beth Bosworth, Pearl Abraham, Mary Morris, and Larry O’Connor. She curated a series for the Friends of the Park Slope Branch of the Brooklyn Library, featuring readings by Valerie Martin, Mary Morris and Ayun Haliday. In Philadelphia, she founded and curated the Writers and the Process reading series at the Big Blue Marble bookstore, where writers read from their work and discuss the creative process. Featured authors have included Liz Rosenberg, Sparrow, Thomas Devaney, Bob Holman, Joanna Smith Rakoff, Varley O’Connor, Thaddeus Rutowski and Jackson Taylor.

Upcoming events:

Minter hosts a reading from Cleaver Literary Magazine’s Issue No. 9., featuring readers from Cleaver authors and the Editor, Saturday, May 16th at 6pm, Big Blue Marble Bookstore . Followed by a reception.  Free and open to the public.

Book Groups

At Big Blue Marble, Minter founded the ongoing monthly memoir book group designed for writers (held the last Wednesday of the month). Both classic and contemporary memoirs are read and discussed. Some of the books read in the group have been: Running in the Family by Michael Ondaatje, Another Bullshit Night in Suck City by Nick Flynn, The Memory Palace by Mira Bartok, Just Kids by Patti Smith and This Boy’s Life by Tobias Wolff.
